.....about town will not get the pads up to their corred operating temperatura. Quite simply, the bloody thing won't stop, no matter how hard you plant your size 18 boot on the middle pedal. In this scenario it's best to leave competition pads for the competition scene, not for going shopping on Saturday morning in atrafficjam.

Our decision, therefore, was to investigte just how good the Tar.Ox range of motoring anchors were. The range includes discs and pads that can be mixed and matched to customers' individual needs. Tar.Ox brakes are imported into this country by Italtune and it was the latter's Barry Waterhouse who advised us that we should use the Zero C/83 discs matched with Tar.Ox B40 pads. Fitting them was a breeze as they are direct replacements for the standard items. That's where the comparison ends, however, as the difference between the standard Ford set-up and the new one was astounding. The pads are pre-bedded straight from the box, pedal pressure is just right and we have yet to experience any fade. Barry really stresses that the Tar.Ox pads must be used with the suitable discs and in our experience the man is not just trying to sell more bits; he's right.

Making our new raunchy Fiesta look as good as it sounded - remember that it has a full Janspeed exhaust and manifold - was going to be a problem. CCC is not prone to promoting 'add-on white bits'. Body kits are for the boys, not the serious performance punters. Wheels and tyres can make a car look great as well as do a better Job. We splashed out and grabbed a set of RS wheels but balanced our indulgence by looking around for good grip and good valué on the tyre front. The answer carne from a set of Firestone Firehawk S660s (6x13in). Great success. As for the body kit, we think the result is subtle enough while still being distinctive. It's a Fibresport body kit for the XR2 (Fibresports you may remember did the original bodywork for the doomed Escort RS1700T). They have a great range; it seems to be possible to do some fairly dramatic things to a Ford Anglia should you so wish. Certainly the kit can be fitted by a competent DIY merchant, but we have to confess that actually our Fiesta was given the treatment by Steve Foster of Fibresport.

So, our resulting Fiesta still has much that can be done to it. We were to look hard at the suspension and thought of using the Ford Rallye Sport heavy duty handling kit which includes stabilising bars, camber adjustment added to uprated RS springs. The moment we mentioned this, the phone kept ringing and many of you told us it wasn't easy (if at all possible) to get hold of this particular piece of kit. Nah, we said, we know better. It seems those of you who know, know better still! Thoughts are now turning to other handling kits such as offered by companies like Boge. Indeed, we hope to be telling you about a brand new handling kit for Mk1 Fiestas in the near future.

One day we'll manage to get that together and when we do, you lot will be the first to know. Until then, bear with us...

Middle-Left - Inside and out, the CCC Fiesta has been given the full treatment. Subtle bodykit, rather louder Cobra sports seats while, loudest of all, we shall be fitting a hunky pair of Dellortos
