Classical Gas nitrous oxide Fieata versus V8 Classic

Want to reduce the 0-60 time of your stock Fiesta by almost a quarter at the flick of a switch? You do? Then nitrous-oxide (N²O) injection could be just the thing you're looking for, and it needn't just be a Fiesta, as kits are available for virtually any form of two or four wheeled motorised conveyance.

Bob Hatton of Hatton Enterprises imports from the States the Marvin Miller range of nitrous kits - one of which he's fitted to his own 1300 Fiesta S. Does it go, or does it go? Well, before we give you the results of our fifth-wheel tests, here's an outline of how nitrous-oxide injection works for those of you who may have missed last month's 'Heavy Breathing' feature.
The nitrous (or 'laughing gas' as it's probably better known) is injected via solenoids between the carb and the manifold where it splits into oxygen and nitrogen as a result of the heat. To counteract the lean-burn situation that arises from all the extra oxygen being injected into the combustion chambers, more fuel is required. This is injected between the carb and manifold also. Result? Supercharging at a touch of the button that actuates the petrol and nitrous-oxide solenoids. A master switch is located usually on the dashboard, and the actuating switch itself is positioned under the accelerator pedal. Therefore, with the master switch on, the nitrous-oxide injection is brought into play on full throttle. An override switch can also be positioned on the dash, enabling you to bring in.....
