.....how many 20-year-olds can command this much respect?

"Don't follow everyone else." advises Nikki. "Brown Novas with Viper stripes and neons will only impress like-minded people. A clean Mklll Cortina will turn more heads and earn more respect. They aren't as hard to insure as you might think. Keep it sensible, keep it clean and keep it on the road."

Wisdom beyond his years? Amen to that Mr Edwards.

Dan And His Fiesta...

The Mk1 Fiesta is a classic Ford. For sure it might be front-wheel drive, but any doubters should be silenced by the subtle treatment that Dan Burgess has dealt out on his 957cc Pop.

Think about it for a moment - what car was just older than you when you started driving? The next generation is knocking on the door and they're not waiting for an answer, so you'd better open up.

Enough of our bravado. Dan's Fester is at the other end of the spectrum from Nikki's Capri, yet it's still grabbing looks all about. As we sit inthe early evening Southend light, supping coffee and swapping stories, you realise that for Dan to do what he's done was a brave move. When all around you are buying the newest car they can, buy classic and get modding. But a Fiesta?

"It was cheap." Good start. "I've just always liked the Mk1 shape, and I couldn't get a Mk1 Escort. It's something about the bonnet for me."

Sourced through a friend of a friend, the Fiesta wears its original paint and with a few touches such as the home-made quarter bumpers, it's holding its own among the fast-gathering throng of winged wonders. Whatever you think about cruising culture, it can't be denied that the fraternity knows about motors. Usually we get asked when on a photoshoot if we work for/U/ro Trader or do we want a model on the bonnet? Tonight it's different though, the mobile Essex car show is checking out what we've got and passing judgment in favour......

Middle-Right - Nikki's already on his third Capri, but this is his first V6. Despite flogging new motors for a living he's well into living the Ford pledge and attacking corners sideways-stylee.
